NEW FISHERIES

River Lark (2023 onwards)
We have reached an agreement with CFPAS which allows our members to fish the River Lark downstream below Prickwillow. This section runs from Folly farm to Branch bridge on both banks. Please note that access and parking is very limited so please DO NOT block roads and field entrances when fishing here.

We are pleased to announce that as from June16th 2014 we have agreed a deal with London Angling Association (LAA) which allows our members to fish the Great Ouse from the north end of our current waters to Modney Bridge on the east bank and to Danby Drove on the west bank. We also have access to Wissey Pools and upstream on the Wissey as shown on the LAA website (www.londonanglers.net) Click on ‘Fishery List’ – ‘Cambridgeshire’ for maps and details. This extra water will still be controlled by LAA but our Full members can fish with no extra charge as long as they show a current Littleport AC 2014/15 club card. In line with LAA rules anyone fishing LAA waters must carry some form of photo ID.  More details, maps, rules etc. will be added to the website before the new river season. This extra fishing comes at no extra cost and our club card will still cost £15.00 for this season.

PRESTON WORLD CLUB CLASSIC FINAL 2013 REPORT

The most prestigious competition in the history of our club took place last weekend. Ten teams took part in practice sessions on Thursday and friday 26th/27th september for the big day. It was immediately obvious that this section of the Great Ouse was solid with fish. I spoke to Callum Dicks, Simon Willsmore, Will Raison  and Alan Scotthorne amongst others and they all just said ‘It is solid with fish’
It was always a risk that it might not fish after a less than inspiring start to the season but history tells us that September is always a good bet. Most of the practicing anglers were catching between 10-25lb of mainly roach in 4 hours, which by any standards is good fishing.

Day 1 saw 60 anglers line up and even an easterly breeze and bright conditions coupled with clear water could not spoil the day. Barnsley took top honours with 5 section wins out of 6 for 10 points. Dorking were second with 15 points.

Total weight of fish caught from 60 anglers was 740lb 13oz which averaged 12lb 5 1/2oz per peg.

Day 2 was again bright and sunny with clear water and the fishing was a little harder but yet again Barnsley produced a stunning performance ti beat Dorking into second place and secure their place in the World Club champs next year.

Ultimate Barnsley Blacks blitz Preston World Club Classic.
Ultimate Barnsley Blacks have won the fourth Preston Innovations World Club Classic, which was fished on the Great Ouse at Littleport in Cambridgeshire this weekend.

The match – which is contested by the 10 highest finishers in the Division One National, gives the winning team a place in the World Club Championsip next year, and a cheque for £7,000, courtesy of the sponsors Preston Innovations.
Barnsley Winnerrs of Preston Club Classic
Barnsley’s team – which was made up of Alan Scotthorne, Lee Kerry, Matt Godfrey, James Dent, Sam Wildsmith and Steve Barraclough won nine sections out of a possible 12 over the two-day event – beating second-placed Daiwa Dorking by a seven-point margin. Matrix Dynamite Trentmen took home the third-place cheque, finishing some 34 points behind the leaders.

In the individual stakes, Barnsley team man, and Pole Fishing Magazine’s Editorial Assistant, Matt Godfrey proved an unstoppable force on the Cambridgeshire river – winning both matches outright, and taking individual glory with a total weight of 24kg 50g of roach over the two days.

Matt explained: “The team is absolutely over the moon to have won – it is still sinking in really. I am sure we caught it right in terms of time of year, but the venue is absolutely teeming with roach, easily the most prolific natural venue that I have ever fished in the UK. It was announced at the presentation that over 600kg of fish was caught over the two-day contest, an average of over 5kg per man, per day.

“To represent England in the World Club Championship will be a great honour, it is to be held in Slovenia next year – at the same venue the ladies won gold from last month. Myself, Alan Scotthorne, Lee Kerry and James Dent have all fished the venue in the past – so go into the match very confident of our chances.”

Barnsley’s team tactics revolved around balling in leam at the start of the match to create a cloud in the water, before following it in with several balls of groundbait packed with joker. Fishing bloodworm on the hook saw the northern rods catch dumpy roach, and the occasional rudd and small skimmer for the duration of the four-hour match.

With Preston Innovations signing a four-year contract to back the event in 2009, this year’s contest could be the last to run, unless a new sponsor is found.

Matt concluded: “On behalf of all the competitors, we would like to say a big thank you to the sponsors, Preston Innovations for supporting the event over the last four years, and to the Angling Trust for choosing such a great venue, and running the event so smoothly. I really hope a new sponsor can be found, so the event can continue to run in future years.”
